All About Reno
Why We LOVE Reno
Reno is a great place to live, sitting squarely in the Sierra Mountains--close to desert, lakes and mountains. Each season brings its own excitement. Winter brings snow sports, festive parties downtown and surgar white coating on the surrounding mountains. Spring comes quickly and stays only a short while, but starts the season of outdoor activities. Enjoy walking and hiking in the beauty of the Sierras, to exploring the many lakes and rivers. Summer is warm and dry, but the evenings remain cool, allowing opportunities to reset after a long day in the sun. Late summer and fall bring downtown activities from cars (Hot August Nights), motorcycles (Street Vibrations), rodeos, hot air balloon races, airplanes (Reno Air Races), and local farmers' markets.
With the revitalization of downtown Reno along the Truckee River, you can enjoy ice skating in winter, and kayaking, art festivals, and concerts in the park during the summer. With growing real estate demands, businesses moving to Reno, and the ever-extending outdoor activities, Reno is growing with a freshness and vibrancy only a few cities can claim. That said, Reno remains The Biggest Little City as transportation and logistics are well planned, and travel throughout the Reno/Sparks area is quick and effective.
The schools in Washoe County continue to keep up with our growing housing needs. The elementary and middle schools show good performance, and the high schools continue to produce a good number of students heading towards college. They are also improving the technical training provided to high school students. Recent academic and sports successes continues to drive the University of Nevada, Reno to higher respect and acclaim. The Truckee Meadows Community College is also well respected, and building an additional campus.
Reno provides an abundant supply of activities for the young and young-at-heart--from tubing or rafting on the Truckee River; boating, water skiing, and fishing on the many lakes; biking or running on the trails; to riding dune buggies on Sand Mountain. If golf is your thing, we have some of the best greens around and a PGA tournament in August. There is great hunting and fishing nearby, and there are several dozen ski resorts for skiing, snow boarding and cross country skiing. For the arts try our Pioneer Center for musicals, opera, ballet, and symphonies. The local hotel/casinos have big-name entertainment on a regular basis.
Trade shows and fairs are frequent at both the Livestock Events Center and the Reno/Sparks Convention Center. We have an abundance of great restaurants and shops, with more opening all the time. Our outdoor shows such as Hot August Nights, the Air Races, the Balloon Races, the Rodeo, and the Rib Cookoff are ranked as some of the best in the country.
Why are so many relocating to our wonderful city? Maybe it's because the sun always shines, the people are friendly, we have four seasons, and so much more. Come and sample the good life yourself!
